Investors from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt are stealing a march on most of the rest of the world by providing between them around half of Algeria's entire foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2005.
The achievements - and profits - racked up by the companies of these three countries are significant. The Egyptian conglomerate Orascom in telecommunications (Djezzy), construction and building materials (Orascom Construction), as well as their subsidiary Algerian Cement Company for cement, have foreign investors eyeing up the country's potential. The other notable foreign success stories include Kuwaiti firm Watanya, which owns local telecommunications player Nedjma, and Saudi Arabian company Sidar, which is involved in construction and real estate.
Algiers- Song, folk music and plays are included in the programme made by the National Office of Culture and Information (ONCI) specially for the month of Ramadan. These activities will be kicked off by the dress rehearsal of ''Les prétendants'' (pretenders), a play adapted of the work of the Russian playwright Gogol, performed by the association ''Kaouss Kouzeh'' of Algiers and directed by Saïdi Merzoug.
Algiers - Post and ICT Minister Boudjemaà Haichour considered Wednesday in Algiers, as "essential" international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime, insofar as, the interest to fight this cybercrime is common to all the countries," he stressed. Speaking on the occasion of the celebration of the World Telecommunication Day, which coincides with the 14th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) setting up, Haichour pointed out the necessity "to overcome gaps existing between developed and developing countries by setting up a true technological transfer."
