Making A Statement With Money

Once upon a time a billionaire knew he was to die soon from cancer.  He was determined to take his fortune with him because if he could not take it with him, his life would be pointless; so, he began to liquidate his holdings.  A ruthless businessman, he gave little thought to the consequences of his actions.  He was going to die, and he wanted to make a statement with his death.

He began construction on a huge crypt.  When it was completed he began to sell his properties, converting his holdings into gold bars which were then stored in the vault.  His selling of massive quantities of stocks and other properties caused the markets to plummet, leading to a severe Depression.  The government tried to stop the Depression by drastically cutting down taxes for the rich so they could trickle down on the poor, but it did not work, except to get the poor wet, which made it icy and dangerous in the Winter.  Many poor people slipped and fell.

Finally the billionaire stood in front of his gigantic crypt, his work completed, knowing that he would soon die and that his death would make a statement.

An enraged citizen who had lost his job and life's savings in the Depression spotted the wealthy man admiring his vault filled with gold and leapt upon him in a rage and killed him.  With respect to the billionaire, it turned out that there was so much gold in the vault there was no room left for him, and so he was cremated and every Christmas day for the next several years he was sprinkled on the sidewalk outside the vault.  As a result, the poor people who walked the icy sidewalks never fell in front of his crypt and he was finally seen as being of some use to society.
