
Solrun Hoaas is a Norwegian-born and Melbourne-based artist and writer. She studied Arts and Social Anthropology at Oslo University and theatre in Kyoto.
In Australia from 1972, she taught French, completed a Masters Degree on the Noh mask and worked in the Japanese Dept. at Australian National University, while also directing theatre and writing.
She began filming in Okinawa in 1977 and has produced, written and directed several films, incl. At Edge (with poet Judith Wright), Sacred Vandals , Green Tea and Cherry Ripe (Cinema de Réel, Paris), feature film Aya (CICAE Award, Torino 1990) and documentaries Pyongyang Diaries (Berlin Film Festival) and Rushing to Sunshine. Her poetry has been published in Softblow Poetry, Egg Poetry and Writing Maco. She continues to develop film scripts while pursuing printmaking with solo shows forthcoming at Benalla Art Gallery and Gaswoks Arts Park this year.
