Basra Pistachio
Slim man with his young son
Nervously walking to the market;
hadn’t been out with him in weeks,
just to unnerved to defy the risky odds.
Erratic power supply almost makes
having a fridge pointless luxury;
Dad, there’s a new ice-cream shop,
let’s go and have a cone.
Skipped the bus, just in case you need to run;
We’re used to the smell of dust and ditch, all along.
Americans in Hummers and body-armour,
yet with jumpy eyes, if there are no shades;
know they’re out of place but rarely ask why.
Turn two corners, get three scoops and get out of here,
but its too late, place was blown away yesterday.
Sorry son, I know this is more than wrong.

Save and Stretch
Paycheque’s not due for another draggin’ week
That line of credit, started so fat, is getting thin.
Stay on your feet, just skip the vices;
snappin’ up free papers, everyone’s got a grin;
ad-man says ‘Shop `n Save’, might as well be Greek.
Buy and save, madness sale and only deals;
Shop till you drop, don’t pay until you’re grey.
Some things you need, most will steal away your time;
All I know is when you buy you spend, gotta stretch.
Try to spend a tick less, pretend you don’t care;
‘ just turned 51, need a new wallet, no more life on the go.
