She was six when the German
planes dropped their bombs.
She sat under the stairs and
listened, each bomb whistling
overhead till it crashed louder
than she could ever describe.
We organised a second hand
clothes sale to raise money
for women refugees in the
Congo, set up the clothes
under a gazebo and had
4 people come through and
afterwards added $10 each
so that made it up to $100
raised and then, as we took
Barely more than a smudge
on the road, a photo without
torso, arms, face,
eyes, a photo without a
body, without clothes. A
photo without co-ordinates.
