A network cable (Netzwerkkabel) is any cable that is used to connect together two or more computers or computer peripherals in a single information environment. A wide range of different cabling technologies have been invented since the birth of digital networking, from those that can work with small networks to those that are able to connect together entire cities and regions. The Internet is the biggest computer network in the world, and requires the use of thousands and thousands of different network cables for its continual operation. When people are deciding which type of computer network cable to use in their network, there a few key factors that will generally influence their decision.
The type of cable used in a network will depend on the size of the network, the information topology used, the already existing types of cable, and the communication protocols already in place. Some of the leading cable technologies that can be found all over the world include; twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, fiber optic cables, patch cables, Ethernet crossover cables, and even power lines. The actual specifications used in each of these technologies is dependent on the generation of cable used, with most different cables releasing a number of separate generational categories. The cat 6 cable (Cat6 Kabel) is one specification that can still be found everywhere in networks today, normally using Gigabit Ethernet and other similar network protocols.
